Princess Margaret, who died in 2002 at the age of 71, began vacationing on Mustique in the 1960s after being given a 10-hectare plot of land by the island’s then owner, Colin Tennant, according to Business Insider.

The private island is known to attract the attention of high-profile figures such as Prince William and Kate Middleton, Mick Jagger, David Bowie and even Margaret’s sister, Queen Elizabeth.

In 2021, Princess Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton wrote a book about The relationship between Margaret and Elizabeth entitled “Elizabeth & Margaret: The Intimate World of the Windsor Sisters”.

“So much attention has been focused on Princes William and Harry,” the author told Fox News Digital at the time. “However, I wanted to explore the lives of these sisters who had a unique relationship that forever impacted the monarchy. They were incredibly close, but still like salt and pepper. To understand the Queen, you have to understand Margaret, which gives a fuller picture of the Windsors and their reign. It was a fascinating project that gave me a completely different perspective.”

“Margaret faced difficulties as a replacement candidate,” Morton explained. “Every replacement candidate struggles with that, not just Margaret. The challenge is to find a relevant and meaningful role in life. That way you’re not seen as someone who’s in someone else’s shadow, as someone who’s going to be king or queen. That’s difficult. And the further down the line of succession you go, the less important you become to the monarchy. There’s a pecking order and you’re suddenly at the bottom.”
