The Balearic island of Menorca off the east coast of Spain in the Mediterranean is one of the most expensive rental car destinations in Europe this summer.
A survey by CheapCarRental.com examined prices for 60 European destinations in August 2024. The pick-up and drop-off location was set at each destination’s main airport.
The popular Spanish island of Menorca turned out to be the fifth most expensive travel destination overall: visitors had to spend an average of 483 euros per week for the cheapest rental car available.
Two other Balearic Islands, Ibiza (26th) and Majorca (29th) is also among the 30 most expensive travel destinations with average rental prices of 316 and 309 euros per week respectively.
The other Spanish destinations included in the survey are four popular mainland cities – Alicante (33rd), Madrid (36th) Málaga (37th), Barcelona (45th) – as well as the island of Tenerife (59th), the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands, lies off the coast of West Africa.
Overall, the most expensive destination in Europe for renting a car this summer is the Norwegian city of Tromsø, with an average price of 658 euros per week. Knock Airport in Ireland West is the second most expensive destination, with an average price of 634 euros per week, while Cagliari, the capital of the Italian island of Sardinia, completes the podium with an average price of 525 euros.
The table below shows the 10 most expensive destinations across Europe to rent a car this summer. The prices shown reflect the average weekly prices for the cheapest rental car for the period from August 1 to 31, 2024.
