Report: Albany politician tried to use his status to get on AA flight to DNC – but missed it because he was busy eating at Chick-fil-A

This made him furious.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy tried to flaunt his status to get an American Airlines flight to the Democratic National Convention after missing boarding while grabbing something from Chick-fil-A, a report said Wednesday.

A source who spotted McCoy at Albany International Airport told the Albany Times Union that he heard the local politician mention his title and his supposed power over the airport as he argued with gate employees about reopening the plane doors.

“They wouldn’t open the door for him, even though he told them he was the district manager, was meeting with President (and Vice President Kamala) Harris and was in charge of the airport,” the anonymous source told the Times-Union.

The witness said that McCoy and one of his co-workers arrived on time but then left to get something to eat at a fast food restaurant in the terminal building.

McCoy was polite but “dropped his name several times,” the source told the Times-Union.

But “the American Airlines employee didn’t care and didn’t know who he was.”

An airline employee told McCoy: “You shouldn’t have gone and got (food), you would have caught your flight,” the source added to the local newspaper.

McCoy and his employee eventually boarded another airline’s flight to Chicago later Monday, the report said.

McCoy’s spokeswoman Mary Rozak could not be reached by The Post for comment. Rozak told the Times-Union she “cannot say what did or did not happen at the airport.”

No public funds were used for the trip to the DNC, she added.

McCoy has recently denied plausible reports that he is trying to make a smooth transition from elected office to take a job as airport manager.

The county board that oversees the airport recently refused, without explanation, to renew the contract of the current long-time airport director. McCoy appoints three of the board’s seven members.

Many other politicians traveling to the convention were stranded at New York airports on Sunday because their flights were delayed by a storm moving through the region, not because of chicken sandwiches.

Chick-fil-A did not respond to a request for comment.
