Report: Barcelona cannot sign new player despite selling defensive wonder for 10 million euros

Report: Barcelona cannot sign new player despite selling defensive wonder for 10 million euros

After weeks of negotiations, Barcelona have finally confirmed the sale of Mika Faye to Stade Rennais.

The young defender is set to join the Ligue 1 team for a transfer fee of €10.3 million, making him one of the most expensive sales for a player who did not play a single game in his first season. Barcelona.

Faye’s sale is not enough to register Olmo

However, despite this latest sale, Barcelona are still unable to sign new summer signing Dani Olmo, reports Catalunya Radio.

This is mainly because Barcelona did not register Faye for the first team this summer, so his salary was not taken into account by La Liga in the first place and did not affect Barça’s inflated wage bill.

To reduce the pressure on salary costs, Barcelona needs to sell someone who is already registered in the first team.

How can Faye’s sale help Barcelona?

Although Barcelona cannot use the sale of Faye to sign Dani Olmo, the €10 million it receives from Rennes can be used to replenish the club’s coffers.

This money could prove helpful in the long run and potentially help return to the 1:1 rule. It must be noted that even after the Aramark agreement, Barça still had to generate €60 million in additional revenue to return to the 1:1 rule.

The 1:1 rule means that Barcelona can spend every euro it earns, increasing its power in the transfer market.

In any case, the next few days could be crucial for Barcelona as they are also expected to complete the sales of Vitor Roque and Clement Lenglet. One would expect the club to register Olmo once these departures are confirmed.
