Report: San Francisco 49ers have signed a contract to transfer wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Pittsburgh Steelers

The months-long saga surrounding the San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk could be coming to an end.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the 49ers have a potential deal in the works to trade the wide receiver to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The report states that the Steelers are “in a good position” to have Aiyuk agree to a long-term contract that will keep him with the Steelers beyond the 2024 season.

The deal is only at stake if the 49ers give their final approval. The terms of a possible transfer are not yet known.

The 49ers have made Aiyuk a long-term contract offer, but he has not accepted it. The team may wait for Aiyuk’s response before making a decision on the trade.

Aiyuk, 26, posted a career year in 2023 with 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, helping the 49ers reach Super Bowl 58. He is set to earn a base salary of $14.1 million in 2024, his fifth-year option. He wants a contract extension that gives him an average annual salary on par with other wide receivers – including Philadelphia’s AJ Brown, Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson – who signed lucrative new contracts in the offseason.

Aiyuk, 26, has adopted a hold-in strategy throughout training camp with the 49ers as he seeks a new contract. He is present at training camp to avoid fines but is not participating in any activities or practices.
