Reston man charged with sexually abusing 7-year-old girl in store

A Reston man is now behind bars accused of the disturbing sexual assault of a child in a busy store in a Fairfax County mall.

Fairfax County Police say it was a brazen and shocking crime. The man allegedly followed the little girl into a store where she was with her mother before touching the child and taking photos of her. Customers who spoke to FOX 5 were stunned.

“I’m completely shocked,” said Reston resident Katie Ward. “I’ve never felt unsafe here, never even thought about it. Pretty shocking, for sure.”

The incident occurred at around 10:30pm on Friday 9 August at the South Lakes Village Shopping Centre.

Authorities have not specified which store this happened at, but the mall includes a Safeway and a CVS.

According to police, a 7-year-old girl and her mother were shopping at a store when they were followed by 25-year-old Arturo Elmore-Adon of Reston. He reportedly touched the child inappropriately, took photos and then fled the area.

According to investigators, the little girl was not physically injured. But emotionally, of course, the matter is different.

Police caught and arrested Elmore-Adon on Monday. He is accused of aggravated sexual abuse, among other things. He is being held without bail.

People say it’s a disturbing reminder for parents – and for all of us.

“Just overwhelmed, disturbed,” said Kevin Reardon.

“It’s sad. Like I said, I’ve never felt like this here before, it’s really eye-opening. Everyone has to be more careful and everyone has to look out for each other.

“It’s scary,” said Steve Heller, a Reston resident. “It’s scary where this world is heading today.”

Investigators fear there may be more victims. They are asking anyone with information to call Fairfax County police – and you can remain anonymous.
