Rhamondre Stevenson injury update: Patriots RB returns from injury after his pinky gets stuck in face mask

In Week 3, the New England Patriots take on the New York Jets. This week’s Thursday Night Football game pits two teams known for their defense and their drive to establish the running game.

Rhamondre Stevenson got the starting job for the Patriots in a tough matchup. So far, not much has gone right for New England’s offense in 2024, but Stevenson has rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns on 46 carries.

Unfortunately, the running back suffered an injury in the second quarter of the game and had to sit out a crucial drive for the Pats.

Latest information on Rhamondre Stevenson’s injury

Stevenson suffered a strange injury in Thursday night’s game. The running back broke off a long run, but the play was flagged. A face shield was called for, but it was against Stevenson.

The Patriots running back dodged the Jets defender with his arm outstretched and it appeared as if his little finger got caught in his opponent’s helmet.

Before his injury, Stevenson had rushed for 20 yards on four runs. He usually gets a few balls in the passing game, but Jacoby Brissett has never thrown one to him.

Stevenson was able to return in the second half. Despite missing most of the first half due to his injury, he was the first to start after halftime. Stevenson seems to be fine at the moment, but the rest of the game is something to keep an eye on.

Patriots RB Depth Chart

1. Rhamondre Stevenson
2. Antonio Gibson
3. JaMycal Hasty

If Stevenson is unable to return, New England will have to rely on Antonio Gibson in the backfield. After beginning his career with the Washington Commanders, Gibson signed with the Patriots as a free agent. At one point, it looked like he could develop into a solid starter in the league due to his ability as a pass-catcher. However, he never took that next step, opting instead to start fresh in New England.

If the Pats are without Stevenson, the third running back, JaMycal Hasty, could also be included in the game plan.

We will update this post as more information becomes available.
