The Georgia Department of Health’s Environmental Health Division conducts regular restaurant inspections to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

Below is a list of restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that were inspected between August 9 and August 15, along with their ratings and, in some cases, the health violations that led to a reduction in those ratings.

Disclaimer: On any given day, a facility may have fewer or more violations than the last inspection. An inspection conducted on a given day may not be representative of general, long-term conditions at the facility. Some more recent follow-up inspections may not be included here.

Inspector’s comments:

  • “No Certified Food Protection Manager certificate found. Obtain/issue certificate.”
  • “It was observed that the measuring spoon was improperly stored in a sugar container in the dry storage room. To avoid contamination, store the handle away from food or store the measuring spoon away from food.”
  • “Noticed that the top lids of the dumpsters were left open. Make sure all dumpster doors remain closed when not in use.”
  • “Dead bugs discovered under the sink. Mosquitoes discovered in dry storage area. Determine an approved method to deter and get rid of pests. Remove dead bugs.”

  • “It has been observed that time/temperature control or food safety in the PTC is not maintained at 41°F or below. Ensure TCS foods are maintained at 41°F or below in cold storage.”
  • “Items requiring a preparation and disposal date have been observed in the PTC. A preparation and disposal date must be marked on the containers of prepared foods.”

Inspector’s comments:

  • “Expired food manager certification detected.”
  • “Milk observed at 53°F. Cold stored TCS foods must be stored at 41°F or below (or use time as safety control with written procedure on listed foods).”

Taqueria El Patron, 3107 Washington Rd.: 82

Inspector’s comments:

  • “I have seen red salsa and mole stored uncovered in the refrigerator to the right of the kitchen entrance. Properly cover all stored foods with foil.”
  • “Brown deposits observed in ice maker. Repeated violation. Clean regularly to prevent deposits.”
  • “Liquid butter observed in unlabeled bottle on grill. Label foods stored outside of original packaging.”
  • “Keep phone between clean plates. Keep personal items away from surfaces that come into contact with food.”
  • “Employee was wearing a watch while preparing food. Do not wear jewelry on hands/wrists other than a Plan Band ring.”
  • “The last observed inspection was not published. Publish the last inspection publicly.”
  • “Wet stacking of dishes observed. Allow dishes to air dry thoroughly before stacking.”
  • “Mosquitoes and flies observed in dining area and kitchen. Repeated violation. Determine a method to keep flies out of the establishment. Be sure to wipe down sticky areas that may attract pests.”

Inspector’s comments:

  • “No Certified Good Protection Manager certificate found. Obtain certification within 60 days of this inspection.”
  • “Discovered a rusted cheese tin sitting on a dry storage shelf past its expiration date. Monitor expiration dates and ensure food is disposed of properly.”
  • “No thermometers for measuring food temperatures or discovered in the refrigerators and freezers. Obtain thermometers for measuring food temperatures.”
  • “In dry storage, rice was observed not to be stored at least 15 cm above the ground. Store all food at least 15 cm above the ground.”
  • “Under the hand/prep sink was found to be not smooth and easy to clean. Build a smooth and easy to clean surface under the sink or replace the materials.”
  • “No test strips found to correctly check disinfectant concentration. Obtain the correct test strips for the disinfectant.”
  • “I have noticed buildup in the refrigerator and freezer. Clean. Clean more often to limit buildup.”
  • “No hot water detected at preparation/hand basin. The responsible person has indicated that batteries are required for water heating. Ensure that hot and cold water is available at all times.”
  • “No air gap found under hand/prep sink. Install air gap under sink within 60 days of this inspection.”
  • “Live cockroaches have been observed in refrigerators, freezers and appliances. Contact a licensed pest control professional immediately to get rid of the cockroaches.”
