WASHINGTON – Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida and former Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell of Florida are in a neck-and-neck race for Florida’s Senate seat in November, according to a new poll released Friday.
The Hill/Emerson College poll, conducted Sept. 3-5, found that 46 percent of likely Florida voters are choosing Scott, while 45 percent are choosing Mucarsel-Powell. Nine percent said they were undecided.
The poll results come at a time when Republicans have greatly expanded their stronghold in Florida in recent years. In the 2022 midterm elections, both Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) won re-election by large margins.
The close race between Mucarsel-Powell and Scott shows the Democrats’ attempt to gain a foothold in the state.
The poll also found that 47% of independent voters in Florida would choose Mucarsel-Powell, while 34% would choose Scott. 19% said they were undecided. Among female voters, Mucarsel-Powell leads Scott, 48% to 42%, while Scott leads Mucarsel-Powell, 51% to 42%, among the state’s male voters.
The poll, conducted among 815 likely voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
