“Ridiculous” – Maddison comments on Bissouma’s return after nitrous oxide suspension

James Maddison praised the “ridiculous” skills of Yves Bissouma after the midfielder scored a superb goal on his return to the Spurs team.

The Malian international was left out of the squad for the 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Monday after Ange Postecoglou penalised him for apparently taking laughing gas (nitrous oxide) during pre-season.

The 27-year-old started against Everton on Saturday and rewarded the coach’s trust in him with a brilliant shot that rebounded off the crossbar in the 4-0 win.

“We all know Yves’ ability,” Maddison told Sky Sports after the game. “At times he is an incredible player. He has skills that not many have. The coach is a great man with good morals. He (Bissouma) has to keep working hard.”

Tottenham dismantled an Everton side missing some key players in defence as Son Heung-min scored a brace and Cristian Romero found the net to secure the club’s first win of the new season.

“It’s pretty devastating to see the result at 4-0,” added Maddison. “I think we absolutely deserved it. We dominated and felt like we should have got the three points last Monday (against Leicester).”

“The performance on Monday was there. We didn’t miss our chances.”

“It’s important that we try to implement the coach’s wishes. It’s about trusting him.”

Postecoglou was pleased with his team’s attitude after Monday’s disappointing result. “The football was good and we played well,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Last week we played well and dominated the game, today it was a bit different. The boys were in a strong mood and we scored a really good goal early on and didn’t let up after that.”
