Expectations for the 2024 Arizona State football team are changing.

In a good sense.

Before the season, the ASU football team was the favorite to win three games in the entire season, according to ESPN’s Matchup Predictor, which analyzes data showing each team’s odds of winning each game.

After a thrilling 31-28 win over Texas State on Thursday night, the Sun Devils are now 3-0 this season and have already fulfilled that expectation.

But the success has also raised higher expectations.

According to ESPN analysis, Kenny Dillingham’s team is expected to win seven games this season – more than twice as many as predicted before the season.

Additionally, Arizona State is projected to start the season 5-0.

Wouldn’t that be something?

Tips for the third week of college football: Arizona vs. Kansas State | Alabama vs. Wisconsin | Oklahoma State vs. Tulsa | LSU vs. South Carolina | Notre Dame vs. Purdue | Oregon vs. Oregon State | Texas A&M vs. Florida | Washington State vs. Washington | UTSA vs. Texas | Georgia vs. Kentucky | Indiana vs. UCLA | Colorado vs. Colorado State | West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh

How expectations for ASU football have changed after the 3-0 start

Before the season opener against Wyoming, ASU only had a win probability of over 50% in three games: Wyoming, Texas State and BYU.

After the game against Wyoming, wins against Mississippi State, Texas State, Texas Tech, Cincinnati and BYU were considered favorites (in addition to the win over Wyoming).

After wins against Wyoming, Mississippi State and Texas State, ASU is now the favorite for its seventh win of the season – and thus has a higher probability of winning this game than Kansas.

This makes one wonder: Can Arizona State rewrite expectations in the 2024 season?
