Rotary sets fundraising goal for chicken BBQ at Bethel Park High School

With its annual Chicken BBQ fundraiser, the Rotary Breakfast Club of Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park has set a goal this year to raise $55,000 by the October 26 event.

“In 1989, the first Chicken BBQ fundraiser raised just $8,000 to help two local youth in need of a bone marrow transplant. Today, the event has raised well over $50,000,” said Sally Morrison, who co-chairs the event. “But what excites us even more is the commitment of our two strong communities.”

As early as 8 a.m. on barbecue day, over 1,500 chickens will be on the grill to prepare more than 3,000 dinners. Each dinner costs $25 and includes half a grilled chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, a dinner roll and dessert.

“With over 50 volunteers, students and staff from Bethel Park High School and Upper St. Clair High School, the day is a breeze,” said co-chair Teresa Kozleuchar. “We are a well-oiled machine and have even set up a convenient drive-thru at Bethel Park High School so you don’t even have to leave your car.”

The drive-in is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Proceeds benefit local organizations such as Bethel-St. Clair Meals on Wheels, police and fire departments, youth camps and sports.

Tickets for the Chicken BBQ dinner can be purchased with a donation at www.chixbbq.org. If your company is interested in partnering, contact Sally Morrison at 412-951-7543 or [email protected].
