Your fast train journey does not end in chaos

New Delhi: A bus stop, special boarding and alighting zones for buses, cars, taxis and private vehicles, and a bicycle path will be set up on the flyover. Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station for seamless Multimodal integration.
Since this station is strategically located in close proximity to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro Pink Line Station, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, City Bus Depot and Ring Road, the National Capital Region Transportation Corporation (NCRTC) creates a people-friendly ecosystem. Key features include pedestrian pathways, pedestrian bridges and moving walkways.
A stopping zone for over 40 vehicles will be created beneath the station building. Once completed, passengers will be able to enter the station by walking a short distance from their stop along separated pedestrian walkways, without the interference of motorized vehicles.
The station will have a 5.5-meter-wide stopping lane for cars or taxis, a 7.5-meter-wide stopping lane for city buses and an 8-meter-wide stopping lane for cars. There will also be a dedicated cycle lane. A city bus interchange station will also be set up under the elevated station, where more than 15 buses can park at a time. The station’s parking lot can accommodate 275 cars and 900 two-wheelers.
“Due to lack of space, commercial and private vehicles often have to drop their passengers on the road. This hampers traffic and leads to congestion in the area. To ensure that this does not happen here, measures are being taken to facilitate movement in and around the RRTS station,” said a senior official of the NCRTC, which is implementing the project. The official added that due to the strategic location, hundreds of thousands of passengers are expected to use this upcoming mega transport hub.
Considering the high footfall, the NCRTC has provided five entrances and exits and several staircases, lifts and escalators to enable people to reach the station easily. The 215-meter-long, 50-meter-wide and 15-meter-high station is equipped with 14 lifts and 18 escalators for the passengers. Universal accessibility is also ensured at all these points.
To facilitate the commute of Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station to the station, which are 280 m apart, a FOB with six moving walkways will be built.
“While conceptualising the design, the NCRTC has proactively taken steps to address this issue. It will be the next best example of multimodal integration (MMI). This station has been designed in such a way that it can be seamlessly connected with other existing public transport, be it a bus stand, railway station or metro station,” an official said.
He added that the construction work at Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station was at an advanced stage and the construction was progressing as per the stipulated schedule.
A 34 km section between Sahibabad and Modinagar north of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, which includes eight stations, is already operational. An 8 km section from Modinagar to Meerut South is expected to be operational soon. The entire corridor is expected to be ready by next year.
