Mahopac may have just gotten a new prominent neighbor.
On Thursday evening, rumors circulated on social media that YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul and his crew were the newcomers to Massaro House on the island of Petra.
On Thursday afternoon, user ryzy15 posted a video on TikTok titled “Jake Paul sighting in Mahopac.” In the video, several pontoon boats and kayaks could be seen on Lake Mahopac near the home. A kayaker can be heard saying “Hi Jake,” to which Paul appears to respond with “Hey buddy.”
There was great excitement in other Putnam County community groups over the news that a helicopter had landed on the roof of the Massaro House, possibly containing the star-studded new neighbor.
Paul, known for his controversial videos and bold fights in and out of the ring, seemed to confirm the rumor after posting videos of his helicopter ride, a Carmel Police boat escort on Lake Mahopac and his squad at the famous home to his Instagram story on Thursday night.
Who is Jake Paul?
Paul, originally from Westlake, Ohio, got his big break in 2013 when he started making short six-second videos on the now-defunct Vine platform with his older brother Logan. In 2014, he began producing YouTube videos with content ranging from pranks to hip-hop parodies and even starred in the Disney Channel show Bizaardvark in 2016. But Paul and his brother quickly became controversial figures in the content creation scene with the creator collective Team 10, a new trend in social media entertainment based on collaboration.
Neighbors of the original Team 10 house in California complained about the behavior emanating from there and threatened to sue Paul and the group in 2017 after hordes of young children began coming to the building almost daily to catch a glimpse of him.
He started his boxing career in 2018 and competed against several UFC fighters, including Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley. The junior heavyweight is scheduled to return to the ring against boxing legend Mike Tyson on November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
What is the Massaro House on Petra Island on Lake Mahopac?
If the rumors are true, Paul, who is known for his great collaborations with content creators, has chosen one of the most extraordinary homes in Putnam County for his new “content house.”
The Massaro House was built in 1996 by sheet metal contractor Joseph Massaro on Petra Island, one of three islands in 587-acre Lake Mahopac. The house was originally designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1949, but was never fully completed due to budget constraints. Instead, Wright built a three-bedroom guest house on the property.
Massaro bought the property and completed the building according to Wright’s plans. It was completed in 2007 and is said to be the largest house Wright ever designed. The house includes a helipad, dock and beach. It is only accessible by boat or helicopter.
The Massaro House was eyed for purchase by several celebrities in 2013, including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It was most recently listed for sale in 2021, with prices starting at $9.95 million. Groups such as Wright Over Water and Wander made the house available for short Airbnb-like stays and tours while it was vacant, with prices hovering around $2,000 per night.
However, due to new guests in town, tours are on hold for the foreseeable future. Paul said his content company, Betr, has partnered with Wander to rent the house for content creation.
It is still unclear how long Paul will stay and how many people will live with him.
