Ryan Day reacts to Ohio State’s ‘mixed’ win over Marshall

Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes rose to 3-0 on the season in Week 4 when they defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd with a score of 49-14 on Saturday.

The pioneer was the transfer running back Quinshon Judkinsas he collected 173 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the afternoon. Afterward, Day spoke with FOX’s Jenny Taft, where he explained why he believes the win was a “mixed result” for the Buckeyes.

“Kind of a mixed bag,” Day said of Ohio State’s performance. “I thought the offense was really explosive today and the defense made some good stops, but we were just a little sloppy in certain areas. So we’ll look at the tape and get that fixed.”

Day also spoke about the Buckeyes’ offensive performance, as they were strong on that side of the ball in 2024. According to Day, they are still finding their identity under Chip Kellybut the future looks bright.

“More balanced, you know, and more of the same,” Day said of what Ohio State’s offense will look like going forward. “You know, we’re still trying to find our identity, but I think overall, these guys play really hard. I thought the offensive line played hard. I thought the running backs played hard. I thought Will (Howard) played well and made good decisions. The receivers did a great job in that game, you know, running after the catch and blocking on the perimeter.

“So when the balance is right, you can see that we can be explosive. So again, it’s about finding our identity, but it’s a good start.”

With another win under their belt, Ohio State will look to continue their impressive play when they face some conference opponents next weekend. The Buckeyes will travel to East Lansing where they will face the Michigan State Spartans in week 5.

Ryan Day’s squad will certainly be the favorites in this game and they will be motivated to keep their offense at full speed against the Spartans. For the rest of Saturday, however, Ohio State can look forward to a nice win against a combative Marshal team.
