Ryanair boss calls for limit of two drinks at airports to prevent unrest

According to Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary, passengers at airports should be limited to two drinks.

Mr O’Leary said introducing alcohol restrictions at airports would help counter the rise in unrest on flights.

Alcohol-related outbreaks occur weekly, especially when mixed with other substances.

“We don’t want to begrudge people their drink,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

“But we don’t allow people to drive drunk, and yet we continue to put them on airplanes at 33,000 feet.”

According to Mr O’Leary, crew members and other passengers have been targeted.

Delays and longer waiting times at airports exacerbate the problem.

“In the past, people who drank too much would eventually collapse or fall asleep. But today these passengers also take pills and powders,” he added.

“It’s the mix. You get much more aggressive behavior that is very difficult to control.”

Mr O’Leary said it was difficult for airlines to identify drunk people at the gate, especially if they boarded in a group.

“As long as they can stand and shuffle, they’ll get through. Then when the plane takes off, we’ll see the misbehavior,” he said.

Ryanair staff search bags for alcohol before passengers board flights to Ibiza, one of the worst-hit “party destinations.”

Other challenging destinations include some of the Greek islands.
