San Antonio Zoo named third best in the country

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Zoo is receiving national attention after being named the third best zoo in the country.

A panel of experts at Newsweek and a subsequent public vote recognized the outstanding achievement of the Alamo City Zoo.

This comes shortly after it was named Best Zoo in Texas for the fifth time in six years at the 2024 Texas Travel Awards and was named Best Family Attraction 2024 by the SA Current for five years in a row.

This is the second time in the last two years that the San Antonio Zoo has been recognized as one of the top three zoos in the country. In 2023, Zoo Lights, the zoo’s holiday lighting program, also won national recognition.

“I am incredibly grateful for the tireless dedication of our Zoo crew, whose exceptional care for animals and our community embodies the heart and soul of the San Antonio Zoo,” said Tim Morrow, president and CEO of the San Antonio Zoo. “I feel very fortunate to be part of this 110-year-old legacy that enhances San Antonio and advances the conservation community. Together, we are shaping a future where wildlife thrives through conservation and the education we pass on to our children.”

The San Antonio Zoo has many exciting things planned for 2025, including an expanded giraffe savanna and a highly anticipated gorilla habitat at Congo Falls.

The zoo also recently opened a state-of-the-art zoo entrance and is planning a new events center for next year.
