As of today, Amazon has slashed the price of the Sony WH-1000XM4 noise-canceling headphones by 43%. The headphones normally cost $348, but now you can snag them for just $198, matching the best price we’ve seen on Amazon Prime Day. There’s a newer model – the WH-1000XM5 – but that’s currently “on sale” for $328 and certainly not worth the $130 markup for an incremental update. Sony’s headphones are considered by many to be the best noise-canceling headphones under $400, let alone under $200, beating out stiff competition like the Bose QuietComfort.

Released in 2020, the Sony WH-1000XM4 is still one of the best noise-cancelling headphones on the market. The large 40mm drivers with LCP diaphragms offer excellent sound quality with low distortion, even at high volumes. The earcups are made of a soft synthetic leather material that creates a good seal around your ear, providing effective passive isolation. This in turn improves audio quality and, coupled with Sony’s QN1 HD processor, offers some of the best active noise cancellation you can get in a closed-back headphone. Ergonomics have also been considered. The soft ear pads and padded headband allow you to wear these headphones comfortably for hours. The earcups swivel and fold compactly for easy transport (which is no longer possible with the newer WH1000XM5). Other conveniences include USB Type-C charging, up to 30 hours of battery life on a single charge, multipoint support for simultaneous Bluetooth pairing with two separate devices, clear hands-free calling, and more.
The Sony WH-1000XM4 is well worth the price, especially at this price. Although we have not tested this particular headphone, we have tested its successor, the XM5.
