Search for Mamta Kafle: Community continues to comb Manassas Park to find missing mother

Search for Mamta Kafle: Community continues to comb Manassas Park to find missing mother

Weeks after her disappearance, a community in Northern Virginia is still searching for a beloved mother, wife, sister and friend: Mamta Kafle.

The 28-year-old was last seen at her Manassas Park home on Wednesday, July 31. On Saturday, people from near and far came together and organized a search in the hopes of bringing her home.

Police say they are investigating all circumstances, but their search for the young mother has produced “negative results.” But that isn’t stopping people in this Manassas community from searching for her.

Early Saturday, friends and colleagues came together and organized a search party for the missing mother in Bloom Park, not far from her home.

Police have released a timeline showing Mamta’s last known whereabouts and when she was reported missing.

Police conducted a welfare check on August 2 after Mamta’s co-worker reported that she had not shown up for her shift at the hospital.

When police arrived at the house, her husband said she was not missing, but a few days later, on August 5, he reported her missing again when she did not come home.

The two have an 11-month-old baby.

FOX 5’s Nana Sento-Bonsu spoke with her husband, Naresh Bhatt, who says the last two weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster.

“I’m really tired. Tired, exhausted – physically, mentally, financially. I’m suffering,” he said. “I’m suffering a lot.”

Naresh Bhatt also wanted to take the time to thank everyone in the community for coming together to help find his wife.

“Wherever she is, we are both waiting for her. We both love her. We are waiting every minute, every second. I need my wife back. She needs her mother. We need our family back to normal.”

While one group was searching on Saturday morning, another gathered outside the Nepalease Community Center and showed solidarity with signs. One read: “Mamta, we won’t stop until we find you.”

Some of Mamta’s friends told FOX 5 they feel it’s not enough to bring her home. But community leaders – like the mayor of Manassas – are asking everyone to stay positive.

“Right now, everyone needs to stay positive. Stay confident that this thing is going to have a positive outcome. That’s what you have to do as you wait. I know it’s frustrating and difficult to wait, but that’s what you have to do,” said Manassas City Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger.

“Let’s make sure we stay and Mamta feels the love and knows that this community is looking for her and we will not give up,” added Virginia State Delegate Michelle Maldonado.

It is important to note that police have not given us any information on suspects or persons of interest at this time. They say the investigation is ongoing.
