Season ended for Sky rookie Angel Reese due to wrist injury

Angel Reese’s sensational rookie season is over.

The Chicago Sky star will miss the rest of the season with a wrist injury, the team announced Saturday. The injury was diagnosed after Reese was examined following Friday’s win over the Los Angeles Sparks.

“What a year,” Reese posted on Instagram on Saturday. “I never thought the last basket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God’s will to give them a taste of what they’ll see even more in year two lol.”

“I’m very emotional right now because I suffered a season-ending injury. But I’m also very thankful for what’s next. Even though it’s God’s schedule and not mine, I can finally give myself a physical and mental break. ‘God gives his strongest soldiers the toughest battles.'”

Reese, the No. 7 pick in the 2024 draft and a star at LSU, led the league with 26 double-doubles and set a WNBA record with 15 consecutive double-doubles earlier this season.

“I proved that I belong in this league despite everything, even when no one else believed it,” Reese’s post said. “All I ever wanted was to get to the W and make an impact. I can say with certainty that I have accomplished that and will strive to continue to do so.”

The Sky are currently in eighth place in the table and are hoping to secure the eighth and final spot in the WNBA playoffs.
