Seattle Mariners place five young talents in ESPN’s new Top 100 rankings

Seattle Mariners place five young talents in ESPN’s new Top 100 rankings

According to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, the Seattle Mariners have five top-100 prospects in baseball.

McDaniel, one of the better-known talent gurus, released his updated rankings on Wednesday. These include players who were only drafted in July.

TOP 100 UPDATE
– Includes two 17-year-olds who only played in the Dominican Summer League
– One of them has “unprecedented” metrics and a rival manager said he “could be a superstar.”
– 105 players in the ranking + 19 players who have worked their way up into the top group

According to the rankings, infield talent Colt Emerson is the 11th best prospect in the sport. Here’s what McDaniel says about him:

Emerson is an infielder, perhaps not a shortstop, who has good on-base skills (57 walks, 51 strikeouts, .315 hitter in professional baseball) and 20-home run potential.

In addition, McDaniel has ranked infielder Cole Young at No. 39. He is 21 years old. 19-year-old outfielder Jonny Farmelo, who is currently out with a torn ACL, is ranked No. 40. Catcher Harry Ford (currently at Double-A) is ranked No. 53, while infielder Felnin Celesten is ranked No. 69. Celesten is also out for the rest of the season with an injury.

Offers for young players often vary. Just recently, Baseball America reported that the Mariners had eight players in the top 100, including Logan Evans, Tyler Locklear and Laz Montes. Ironically, McDaniel does not have Montes in the top 100, while BA had him at number 29 in July.

On MLB.com, the Mariners have six players in the top 100. These include Montes and Locklear, but not Farmelo.

No matter how you stack them, opinions on the M’s farm system remain strong across the board, and that’s what matters most.
