Disney released a first look at its upcoming Wizards of Waverly Place Continuation series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

The two-minute video (below), which was shown during the Disney Channel premiere of Descendants – The Rise of Red offers a look behind the scenes of the show, with Justin Russo (David Henrie) and Alex Russo (Selena Gomez), his on-screen sister. There is also another familiar face from the original series: Jerry Russo (David DeLuise).

While Gomez serves as executive producer of the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, she is expected to appear only in the first episode at this point. “This is where it all started,” she said in the first look. “We’re home.”

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place follows Justin as an adult who has decided to live a normal, mortal life with his wife and two sons. When Alex shows up at his door with Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a sorceress in training, “he realizes he must brush up on his magical skills to mentor the sorceress in training while also fulfilling his everyday duties – and securing the future of the wizarding world,” the logline says.

Alkaio Thiele, Max Matenko, Taylor Cora and Mimi Gianopulos complete the rest of the cast of the show.

Henrie had previously hinted at what it was like to get back together with Gomez, Wizards of Waverly Place Restart. “It was great. We didn’t want it to end. It was great,” he said of working together again after more than 10 years. “She’s so good. She has such a quick mind that has only gotten stronger.”

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is scheduled to premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ later this year.
