Senator Ted Cruz speaks at the 2024 Economic Outlook Briefing

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Local business leaders gathered for the BCS Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 Economic Outlook Briefing. Over 100 business leaders from the Brazos Valley attended the event.

Senator Ted Cruz was selected as the keynote speaker for the event and he touched on several topics such as job availability, our economic status as a county and state, and increasing job growth across the state.

Susan Davenport, president and CEO of the Brazos Valley Economic Development Corporation, described Bryan-College Station’s economic outlook as steady growth.

“We’re pursuing and monitoring a lot of things, but the growth is slow and steady. We want to expand those opportunities,” Davenport said.

Their goal is to improve our city’s marketing strategies, recruit more candidates for open positions, and address environmental protection and safety.

According to Davenport, the number of jobs in Bryan and College Station has continued to grow since 2020, with growth currently at an all-time high.

“We are rebranding and giving a completely new look to this growing community that now has so much to offer,” said Davenport.

To sustain this growth, collaboration with the entire Brazos Valley is critical.

“We all have something different to offer, but as a region we are stronger,” Davenport said.

Participant and businessman Jay Rudinger says he moved to College Station in 2014 and has no regrets.

“People want to come here. It’s a growing community. If you look back 10, 15, 20 years ago and see how much the city has changed and evolved, you find that both cities are doing a really good job of attracting people here and keeping them here,” Rudinger said.

Rüdiger says it is getting better and better

“When you look at the unemployment numbers and the inflation numbers, Bryan-College Station is always doing well. And that’s because of the leadership of our cities, the leadership of our county and the presence of Texas A&M,” Rudinger said.
