An enthusiastic room of more than 300 business owners, workers and community members welcomed Senator Ted Cruz to the Brazos Valley.

“The last time I was here was for the George Strait concert – how many of you made it to this concert?” Cruz said.

The British Columbia Chamber of Commerce hosted a luncheon at the Hilton Hotel in College Station on Wednesday, giving neighbors a rare opportunity to eat lunch with the senator and ask him questions – the main topic was the economy.

“The jobs are created by the men and women here – each and every one of you. The jobs are created by entrepreneurs, by small businesses that put their capital on the line to meet a need,” Cruz said.

For many entrepreneurs in the area, like Daniel Morchat of Good Company Construction and Kevin Valle of Pink’s Window Services, the local economy is not just a distant political issue, but the foundation of their business.

“With economic growth and rising interest rates, people have been looking for new things and becoming inventive. That’s why we’re just here to help,” Morchat said.

They are learning to adapt to the evolving economy, but are convinced that continued growth in the Brazos Valley is beneficial for business.

“There are a lot of growth opportunities and big market shares here,” said Kevin Valle.

When asked about their insights from the event, Kevin Valle said:

“I think one thing I’ve learned is that it helps me lift my head up and reminds me that I’m not just part of a great city, but a great state and I have great representatives who are the voice of the people.”

“I think I love Bryan-College Station. I came here as a student in 2000 and have no plans to leave,” Morchat said.
