Serena Williams criticizes Paris restaurant for refusing her entry

Serena Williams is not only a tennis queen from all over the world, but also a four-time Olympic champion. But that didn’t stop a Parisian restaurant from refusing her entry.

On Monday, August 5, the 23-time Grand Slam champion used X (formerly Twitter) to publicly denounce the matter.

“Oops @peninsulaparis I was denied access to the rooftop to eat in an empty restaurant in nicer places but never with my kids,” she wrote alongside a photo of a sign for the restaurant. “Always a first. #Olympic2024.”

Although Williams did not provide further details about why she was turned away from The Peninsula Paris during the 2024 Paris Olympics, X-users drew their own conclusions in the comments.

One wrote: “They were denied entry because they were prejudiced. Shame on them.”

Another said: “It doesn’t matter how much money you have. Racism doesn’t care, brother.”

In the comments, The Peninsula Paris appeared to respond to Williams’ public criticism (although the account did not have a “verified” checkmark).

“Dear Ms. Williams, please accept our deepest apologies for the disappointment you experienced this evening,” the message began. “Unfortunately, our rooftop bar was indeed fully booked and the only free tables you saw belonged to our fine dining restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was fully reserved.”

Others couldn’t believe that any restaurant would refuse service to the most successful player in women’s tennis.

One wondered, “How can you get rejected when you’re Serena Williams…lol,” and another replied, “How can THE Serena Williams get rejected anywhere?? Especially during the Olympics???”

Someone else agreed and said, “Who doesn’t make room for a queen?”

Meanwhile, other fans took the opportunity to show their support, with one X user joking, “Me and the crew are otw sis hold on… We’ll keep it classy. Promise.”

Another assured her: “This is your loss, Queen. Better doors will automatically open for you.”
