AMES, Iowa (KTIV) – The Iowa Transportation Commission has approved more than $9.3 million in state of Iowa funding for several airports across the state as part of Fiscal Year 2025.
Several airports in northwest Iowa received funding for aviation planning and development programs through the Iowa DOT’s State Aviation Program.
The Airport Improvement Program will provide $6.3 million for various aviation safety initiatives, systems planning and air service development activities. An additional $3 million will come from aviation vertical infrastructure programs. These programs provide funding for the maintenance and development of airport facilities such as terminal buildings, maintenance facilities and aircraft hangars.
Vertical infrastructure programs are funded through the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund.
Nearly $1.6 million is going to Siouxland airports. Below is a list of projects that received state funding.
Milford Municipal Airport
Project: Terminal access and taxiway

Spencer Municipal Airport
Project: Fuel system improvements
Total cost: $185,500
State funding: $139,125
Rock Rapids Municipal Airport
Project: Renewal of airport lighting
Total cost: $570,000

Sioux County Regional Airport
Project: Expansion of the supply facilities in the southern apron
Total cost: $117,500
State funding: $88,125
Denison Municipal Airport
Project: Remove underground storage tanks
Total cost: $67,000
Government funding: $33,500
Le Mars Municipal Airport
Project: Taxiway extension, taxiway expansion and site improvements
Total cost: $500,000
Government funding: $350,000
Sioux Gateway Airport
Project: Reconstruction of the southern apron
Total cost: 600,000 USD
Government funding: $400,000
Project: Renewal of the terminal roof
Total cost: $128,330
State funding: $128,330
