Shelley Duvall and other well-known stars are missing from the Emmy segment “In Memoriam”

The “In Memoriam” segment of Sunday night’s Emmy Awards in Los Angeles – which marked a brief interruption of the rest of the show to honor industry stars who died last year – was missing some key names.

Accompanied by a performance of rapper Jelly Roll’s “I Am Not Okay,” the tribute featured a number of deceased greats, including Donald Sutherland, James Earl Jones, Martin Mull, Richard Lewis, Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty, Gena Rowlands, Chance Perdomo and Carl Weathers.

However, social media users were quickly point out other deaths not mentioned in the montage, including Shelley Duvall, Treat Williams, Chita Rivera, Joe Flaherty and more.

Duvall, the doe-eyed actress best known for her role in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror classic “The Shining,” died in July from complications of diabetes at age 75. The two-time Emmy nominee was also known for her pioneering work in children’s television programming in the ’80s, even founding her own production company.

The audience was also outraged over what initially appeared to be the omission of the late “Friends” actor Matthew Perry, who died of a ketamine overdose and subsequent drowning in a hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home in October 2023. “Friends” fans can rest assured, however, as Perry has already been honored by the Television Academy at the 2023 Emmy Awards, which were held in January due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
