Sheriff: Plane with two people crashes in South Carolina near golf course

According to the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office, a plane crashed in the Midlands region of South Carolina on Sunday.

Both occupants of the two-person plane were flown by helicopter to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Further information on their condition was not available.

A spokesman for the Saluda County coroner’s office told The State that his office had not been asked to come to the crash scene or the hospital.

The plane crashed in the area between Persimmon Hill Golf Course and Saluda County Airport, the press release said.

Information on the cause of the crash was not available, but the sheriff’s office said the accident was being investigated by the FAA. There was no information on whether the National Transportation Safety Board was also investigating the crash.

There was no information about where and when the plane took off or what its destination was.

In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, both the Saluda County Emergency Medical Services and Fire Department responded to the accident.

Minutes after the accident, firefighters were called to an unrelated building fire across the county. According to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, conditions there were dangerous due to hot temperatures and high humidity.
