SHERRARD, Ill. (KWQC) – Cafes aren’t very common in small towns, but a cafe on wheels might be even rarer.

Brews Energy at 410 Third St. in Sherrard serves energy drinks, smoothies, sodas, lattes and frappes from a trailer.

“We noticed that everyone else was in their place, so we thought it would be cool to do events at some point and then just move them to where we think it fits best,” said Katlyn Justice, general manager of Brews Energy.

Justice came up with the idea after noticing students driving out of the city to meet their caffeine needs.

“I’ve been a substitute teacher at Sherrard High School for the last two years and I always noticed the kids coming in on Atomic or Constellation or wherever in town,” Justice said. “I was like, oh my god, you guys get up so early. So we thought we’d just open up and save them some time, it’s more convenient for people.”

The students at Sherrard High School are extremely happy with the situation.

“It’s super convenient and makes it easy,” said Nadia Anderson, a senior at Sherrard. “Like, in the morning, just coming to Sherrard instead of driving to Rock Island or somewhere else.”

Brews Energy opened last week and another student says he has been there a few times.

“I think it’s definitely great,” said Rylan Carton, a senior at Sherrard. “It’s going to draw a lot of people here. I mean, they’ve been open for three or four days now, so they’re doing really well. I think it just brings the community together.”

Brews Energy plans to have its grand opening the weekend of August 17th. Hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but dates are subject to change.
