Shoes on or shoes off? – The Murray State News

Shoes on or shoes off? – The Murray State News

Murray State purchased Station 74 earlier this year for $16 million.

Station 74 is an apartment complex across the street from the main campus that provides off-campus housing for seniors, non-traditional students, and graduate students. It serves as a replacement for some of the College Courts buildings, the on-campus residence halls that Murray State offered.

The price for Station 74 varies by apartment and ranges from $2,750 to $4,500 per semester, depending on which apartment you get. In these apartments, you have your own room and bathroom and share a common room and kitchen with your roommates.

Compared to dorm living, Station 74 offers several advantages: you can get your own room at a cheaper price, have easier access to kitchen facilities, and less moderation compared to dorm. However, to get the cheaper price, you must choose to live with three other people.

Prices for living in other off-campus apartments may vary, but many on-campus housing options seem to be more affordable and suitable compared to Station 74. Many places, like CEV, offer the same package as Station 74 but are more affordable, with rent starting at around $400 plus some utilities.

The advantage of living in Station 74 is that since it is owned by Murray State, it can be financed with financial aid. If you don’t plan on doing too much in your apartment, staying off campus is a better choice. Since Station 74 is owned by Murray State, you must follow certain guidelines and rules that the university has set for these residents.

In our opinion, Station 74 offers students the opportunity to get out of the dorm and experience apartment living, but at a higher price. While it’s helpful that you can use financial aid for accommodation from your student loan, you’ll have to pay it back at some point.

If you can get a job and work or have the money to pay out of pocket, it is easier and cheaper to live somewhere else compared to Station 74.
