The gunman who shot and killed two students and two teachers at a Georgia high school will be charged with murder, authorities said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the gunman who opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder as 14-year-old Colt Gray.

Gray attended the school and was taken into custody, the GBI said. A motive has not yet been determined.

Cellphone video shows students fleeing Apalachee High School during shooting

During the segment, Serrie presented cellphone video from the crime scene. The footage showed students lining up to leave the school.

The teenagers and adults appeared eerily calm in the footage. On Wednesday afternoon, authorities announced that at least four people had been killed in the shooting.

Shooter turned himself in to school security guard, officials say

A school security officer managed to persuade the shooter to surrender moments after he opened fire, saving lives, authorities said.

Colt Gray, 14, killed four people and injured nine others at Apalachee High School, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday.

“The shooter was armed and our school security officer engaged him,” said Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith. “The shooter quickly realized that if he did not surrender, it would end in a police officer-involved shooting.”

Gray surrendered, lay on the ground and was taken into custody.

Authorities aren’t sure how Gray got the gun onto campus or how he obtained it. Gray was interviewed by investigators, Smith said. Investigators are still trying to determine if anyone was the target.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson expresses his condolences for the school massacre and praises the police response

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson released a statement on the Apalachee High School shooting Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement, the Louisiana Republican condemned the mass shooting and called it a “terrible tragedy.”

“Our prayers today are with the Apalachee High School community and especially the victims and their families who have endured this terrible tragedy,” Johnson said.

“The officers of the Winder Police Department are to be commended for their quick action in arresting the suspect,” the congressman added. “May justice be swift here.”

Former President Trump addressed the Apalachee High School shooting in a social media post on Wednesday, using the platform to express his condolences to the community in Winder, Georgia.

On Truth Social, the Republican presidential candidate called the shooting, which left at least four people dead and at least nine injured, “tragic.”

“Our condolences go out to the victims and families of those affected by the tragic event in Winder, Georgia,” Trump wrote.

“These beloved children were taken from us far too soon by a sick and deranged monster,” he added.

Grandmother of Apalachee High School students remembers chaos after shooting: “They were screaming”

Gwendlyn Cook, grandmother of three Apalachee High School children, was interviewed by Fox News anchors John Roberts and Sandra Smith following the deadly school massacre on Wednesday.

Cook described the chaos she witnessed after a gunman opened fire, killing at least four people.

“When I arrived at the scene, I saw a lot of parents panicking,” Cook explained. “They were running. They were crying. They were screaming because this kind of thing doesn’t happen in this area. So for a lot of us, it was very different.”

The grandmother added that her eldest granddaughter had sent her a text message telling her there was a “severe lockdown.”

“She said, ‘We just heard a gunshot right outside our classroom,'” Cook explained. “So her teacher went and locked the door, and they were screaming and yelling and crying and everything in the classroom. And she told me she went and hid behind the teacher’s desk.”

“But the kids were all over the classroom,” the Georgia resident added. “But I think the teachers actually locked the door.”

Daughter of victim asks for prayers after her father was shot in the foot and hip at Apalachee High School

Authorities in the state of Georgia have not released the identities of those killed and injured in the shooting at Apalachee High School, but one woman said her father was shot.

In a public Facebook post on Wednesday, a woman named Katie Phenix said her father, David Phenix, was shot at school.

“We are so grateful for all the texts, calls and messages about my dad, David Phenix,” the daughter wrote. “This morning there was a shooting at Apalachee High School and my dad was shot in the foot and hip, shattering his hip bone.”

“He arrived at the hospital awake and alert. He was just released from surgery and is stable,” she added. “We will keep you updated as we receive new information. We are so lucky, but please pray for our family and the AHS family.”

Shooting at Georgia high school: Biden denounces “even more senseless gun violence”

President Biden issued a statement following the shooting at a Georgia high school that left four people dead and many more injured, while condemning gun violence.

“Jill and I mourn the deaths of those whose lives were cut short by further senseless gun violence and think of all the survivors whose lives are forever changed,” Biden said in a statement.

“What should have been a joyous back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia, has now turned into another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear our communities apart. Students across the country are learning to duck and take cover instead of learning to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal,” Biden continued.

Harris calls deadly Georgia high school shooting a ‘senseless tragedy’

Vice President Kamala Harris called Wednesday’s shooting that left four people dead at a Georgia high school a “senseless tragedy” that must end.

The Democratic presidential candidate gave a speech in New Hampshire calling for action against gun violence.

“It is simply outrageous that in our country, in the United States of America, parents have to send their children to school every day worrying about whether they will come home alive or not,” she said.

She added: “It doesn’t have to be that way.”

She said she traveled around the country last year, meeting with students at vocational schools and colleges and asking if they had to participate in a school shooting drill.

“Every time the hall was full and almost every hand went up,” she said.

Text messages from a student to his mother reveal the horror unfolding at a Georgia high school, where authorities confirmed four people dead and numerous others injured after a shooting.

“School massacre right now. I’m scared. Please, I’m not kidding,” Erin Clark’s text messages say.

The mother then replies to her son and says that she is leaving work.

“I love you,” the student tells his mother.

She answers and asks where he is.

“Class. Someone is dead,” the student replies.

Georgia high school shooting: Authorities say 4 dead, one suspect in custody

At least four people were killed Wednesday after a shooting at a high school in north-central Georgia forced the building to be sealed off, authorities said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that four people died and nine others were taken to various hospitals with injuries at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia – about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta. The suspect is alive and in custody.

“At approximately 10:23 a.m., officers from multiple law enforcement agencies, as well as fire and rescue personnel, were dispatched to the high school for a report of a shooting,” the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
