Shopko Optical looks to the future
Despite the closure of Shopko retail stores in 2019, Shopko Optical continued operations and plans further expansion.

SHAWANO – Shopko Optical has opened a new location in Shawano County, expanding its presence to more than 140 stores in 13 states.
The company opened a new store Monday at 1056 E. Green Bay St. in Shawano, where it offers patients eye exams, contact lens fittings and other comprehensive eye care services.
The new location is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can check your insurance coverage or book an appointment at the Shawano location through the store’s website.
“We are very excited to become part of the Shawano community,” said Lukas Rücker, CEO of Shopko Optical, in a press release. “This new location will allow us to better meet the needs of the community and continue to provide the patient-centered care that Shopko Optical is known for.”
Shopko Optical also announced that it will expand its partnership with Kids in Focus to Shawano. As part of the program, Shopko Optical will work with the Shawano Lake Lions Club to identify eligible children in the area and provide them with a free eye exam and pair of glasses.
Hamburg-based eyewear retailer Fielmann Group AG purchased Shopko Optical from Monarch Alternative Capital this summer. Monarch purchased the optical business of former wholesaler Shopko in a liquidation sale in 2019 and launched the company as a standalone business. The company grew from around 80 locations in 2019 to over 140 locations now.
