Michaela DePrince: From orphan to star ballerina

Michaela was born on January 6, 1995 in Sierra Leone at the height of the civil war. She lost her parents during the war. She was introduced to ballet when she was adopted by a loving American family. This pivotal moment in her life set her on a path that led her to remarkable dance success in a genre known for its lack of diversity.

Her journey to fame was beautifully captured in the film Taking Flight, which showcased her resilience and passion for dance.
