NUEVO LEON – Walmart and the Ministry of Economy of Nuevo León have signed a cooperation agreement so that small and medium-sized local companies can become suppliers to the retail chain.

The SMEs participating in the Made in Nuevo León program receive training and learn in detail about the requirements and opportunities offered by Walmart.

“The companies will undergo a training process and those that demonstrate quality and meet the company’s standards will be allowed to sell their products in stores,” said Economy Minister Iván Rivas.

The programme offers small and medium-sized enterprises the opportunity to obtain more space to market their products, particularly food and beverages.

“This agreement is very good because we can promote local suppliers and companies can grow by learning from the company’s best practices,” Rivas said.

“We will reach more SMEs to further drive their growth,” said Javier Treviño, senior vice president of corporate affairs at Walmart de México y Centroamérica.

Treviño explained that currently 85% of Walmart Mexico’s self-service suppliers are SMEs, which is why the company is committed to generating economic and development opportunities, with the intention of continuing to generate new sources of direct employment and contributing to the economic development of the state.

Hecho en Nuevo León is a free platform that helps turn ideas into businesses and provides training to established companies to support their growth.

From improving product presentation and strengthening sales skills, to participating in out-of-state trade shows, maturing and migrating into stores, to courses and events to promote their products.

Currently, 1,384 new micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are connected. Over 130 courses are offered and 6,262 participants are involved.
