“Bachelorette” Jenn Tran on identity, family and the search for love
Jenn Tran, the first Asian-American lead actress on the reality series “The Bachelorette,” talks about her identity and the search for a relationship.
The Bachelor franchise promised in classic fashion that the end of the 21st season of “The Bachelorette” would be the most dramatic yet.
Judging by the reactions on the Internet, they may have been right this time.
Tuesday night’s episode, “After the Final Rose,” marked the end of the journey for lead actress Jenn Tran, the series’ first Asian-American lead.
Jenn chose Devin, a 28-year-old trucking company owner from Houston, over 31-year-old veteran Marcus as the winner of her season. But before the audience saw the engagement, Devin and Jenn were in the hot seat together. Jenn said Devin had a lot of doubts during filming and after the show, adding that he broke off the engagement over the phone.
Host Jesse Palmer then played the footage of Jenn proposing to Devin and him coming back while Jenn watched, sobbing, along with the studio audience.
Bachelor Nation was…unhappy.

Fans blame broadcaster for Jenn Tran having to watch her engagement after the breakup
Several users were upset that Jenn had a difficult conversation with Devin and then had to rewatch the once happy moments.
One user was so moved that he wrote a reaction in notes and posted the screenshot to X.
“There is nothing entertaining about watching someone in such insurmountable pain that they are almost gasping for air,” the post reads. “And there is nothing sweet or funny about making them, at the height of that pain, rewatch the day they just described as the worst of their lives in front of a live studio audience and next to the person responsible for that pain.”
But fans will remember that this wasn’t the first time audiences saw a proposal, as the couple went their separate ways before the finale. Rachel Recchia got engaged to Tino Franco on her season’s finale, but they split after filming was halted due to a cheating scandal. Fans still saw the proposal in the episode “After the Finale Rose.”
Maria Georgas is once again in the spotlight
Another revelation from Devin and Jenn’s tense conversation was that he followed Maria Georgas on social media the day after they called off their engagement. Georgas was one of the favorite contestants on Jenn’s season of The Bachelor and also a contender for the title of Bachelorette.
“I can’t excuse the following on Instagram. I know how much that hurt you,” Devin said. “Obviously I disappointed you and I can’t say anything else.”
