A new month means a new round of Social Security payments for benefit recipients.

The Social Security Administration sends regular monthly payments (SSA benefits), but the date varies and generally depends on your birth date. Retirees, Social Security Disability and Survivors’ Income (RSDI) beneficiaries who claimed after May 1, 1997, receive either the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month.

Recipients of Supplemental Security Income, a monthly payment for people with disabilities and the elderly who have little or no income or resources, receive their payments on the first of the month.

If the 1st falls on a weekend, as is the case in September, payments will be made on the Friday before the 1st (August 30, 2024).

A fixed payment date also applies to benefit recipients who received benefits before May 1997.

These are the dates on which beneficiaries can expect their monthly payments in September:

How to report a missing social security payment

Anyone who does not receive their electronic payment on the scheduled date should first contact their bank or financial institution, according to the Social Security Administration, which states that “there may be a delay in posting your payment.”

Anyone who still needs to report a late, missing, or stolen Social Security payment should call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or contact their local Social Security office.

“We will review the case and if the payment is due, we will replace it,” the administration said says on the website.
