Sources – Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins (MCL) plays against the Bears

CHICAGO – Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will play in Sunday’s season opener against the Chicago Bears, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Hopkins suffered a torn medial collateral ligament on July 31 that sidelined him until his return to practice on Wednesday.

The Titans listed Hopkins as a limited participant in practice for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. He was listed as questionable on the injury report.

Hopkins said it was “a great feeling” to be back on the field after practice on Thursday. Hopkins traveled to California to begin his recovery process before returning to Nashville last week.

“As far as I know, everything has healed as it should so far,” Titans coach Brian Callahan said on Friday. “I don’t think there are any more injuries to worry about than originally.”

Hopkins wore tights on his left leg on Thursday but practiced without additional support on Friday. After watching Hopkins during a team walkthrough on Saturday, the Titans will keep a close eye on him during pregame warmups on Sunday.

The Titans will start six wide receivers, including Hopkins, since they did not sign any wideouts from the practice squad this week. It is highly unlikely that Hopkins will play the entire game against Chicago.

“With any player coming back from an injury or an extended absence, you’re smart,” Callahan said. “Requiring a player to play an entire game, every snap, is a tough ask. You should at least try to have a plan to rotate him sufficiently.”
