Southern 42-10 Savannah State (September 7, 2024) Game Summary

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — Backup quarterback Czavian Teasett threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns and Southern beat Division II member Savannah State 42-10 on Saturday, the team’s first win under coach Terrence Graves.

Southern held Savannah State to just one first down and 65 total yards and gained 554 yards. The Tigers’ only first down came on Jadon Adams’ 81-yard touchdown run with 1:52 left in the first quarter.

Joshua Griffin made three field goals in the first half, from 38, 44 and 49 yards, to give Southern a 9-7 lead with 1:55 left before halftime. Less than a minute later, Teasett tied the score on a pass from Chandler Whitfield from 38 yards out for Southern’s first touchdown.

Teasett replaced starter Noah Bodden, who completed 4 of 10 passes for 47 yards and one interception and threw three touchdown passes to three different receivers.

Southern (1-1) finished the game with 26 unanswered points. Teasett threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Dupree Fuller and a 33-yard touchdown pass to Darren Morris. Teasett completed 17 of 29 passes without an interception.
