Sox finally beat the Astros thanks to Jarren Duran’s home run – Lowell Sun

HOUSTON (AP) — Jarren Duran hit 4 for 4 and capped it with a game-winning home run with two outs in the eighth inning that gave the Boston Red Sox a 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 5-5 when Duran hit a fastball from Caleb Ort (1-1) over the wall in left-center field, setting his season record for hits. He also walked and scored three times.

Triston Casas, who had two hits and three RBIs, gave Boston a 3-0 lead with a two-run homer in the first inning. Casas has played 7 of 20 at-bats since coming off the injured list on Friday after missing 98 games with a strained left rib.

Jon Singleton hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the bottom half, and Yainer Diaz hit his third consecutive home run to left-center field in the fifth inning to tie the score at 5-5.

But the Astros, who lead the AL West, went 0 of 8 with runners in scoring position, suffering only their second loss in 13 games.

Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta allowed six hits and five runs in five innings. Zack Kelly (5-2) pitched a perfect seventh inning for the win and Kenley Jansen threw a scoreless ninth inning for his 24th save.

Houston’s Ronel Blanco also allowed six hits and five runs, but only lasted 3 2/3 innings.

Duran started with a double and reached third base on a wild pitch. Wilyer Abreu doubled to make it 1-0 and Casas followed with his home run into right field.

Jose Altuve hit a single in the bottom of the inning and stole second and third base. Yordan Alvarez walked before Altuve scored with one out on a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Peña.

Singleton then hit his home run into right field to tie the game at 3-3.

Jake Meyers started Houston’s second base with a walk and moved to third on a double by Shay Whitcomb. Chas McCormick’s sacrifice fly gave the Astros a 4-3 lead.

David Hamilton opened the fourth with a walk and stole second base before advancing to third on a flyout. Duran’s RBI single tied the game before a two-out single by Casas gave Boston a 5-4 lead.

Meyers prevented a home run for Tyler O’Neill in the fifth inning with a diving catch at the center field wall.
