Spearfish hosts an open house on short-term rental regulations

Spearfish hosts an open house on short-term rental regulations

The City of Spearfish will host an open house style meeting on Tuesday, August 13th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the WS Tretheway Pavilion in Spearfish City Park to gather input and feedback from the public regarding a possible short-term rental policy.

The City of Spearfish does not currently regulate short-term rentals. In response to increasing concerns, the City has formed a task force of various community members, including owners of short-term rentals and hotels, to study the issue.

The task force has held three meetings since its formation earlier this year, during which the group discussed the positive and negative impacts of short-term rentals, identified policy goals for short-term rentals, and made preliminary recommendations that included implementing licensing, developing a business district, and granting exemptions during the Sturgis Rally, among other things.
