Steven J. Lawson was fired as pastor of Trinity Bible Church in Dallas because the 73-year-old had an “inappropriate relationship” with an unknown woman.
A Dallas, Texas, pastor has been indefinitely removed from the church he served since 2018 for having an “inappropriate relationship” with a woman, church leaders said.
Trinity Bible Church announced on its website the removal of Steven J. Lawson after its elders learned of his relationship “a few days ago.” The church did not provide further details about the nature of the relationship or reveal the woman’s name.
“The elders have met with Steve and will continue to support and pray for him, with the ultimate goal of his personal repentance,” the church said. “Steve will no longer receive any compensation from Trinity Bible Church of Dallas.”
Lawson, 73, served as a pastor in Arkansas and Alabama for more than 40 years before becoming senior minister at Trinity Bible Church in Dallas, according to his profile on OnePassion Ministries, a church he founded and serves as president.
“With that in mind, we should remember that we are ALL sinners and Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners – and Christ remains the head of His Church, which is greater than any fallen man,” Trinity Bible Church says. “In fact, Jesus Christ will continue to lead His Church, including Trinity Bible Church here in Dallas, just as He has since beginning this work on January 5, 2018.”
“We ask for your prayers for the elders, for our congregation, and for Steve and his family,” the church’s statement said.

Who is Steven J. Lawson?
Lawson is a graduate of Texas Tech University and received his Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry from Reformed Theological Seminary.
The pastor is also the author of 33 books and has preached in more than 14 countries, according to this One Passion profile.
Lawson has a wife, three sons and a daughter.
