Storm temporarily interrupts food delivery

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Meals on Wheels and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s mobile food distribution are canceled Friday due to inclement weather.

“With all of the meals we were supposed to deliver on Friday being delivered today for all of our customers, it should be fairly easy to get back up and running on Monday and continue business as usual,” said Hailey Peterson, executive director of Meals on Wheels.

As with Meals on Wheels, those who rely on Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Distribution will not receive food on Friday. The pantry hopes to get back on its feet soon.

“The idea is really to get the food out to as many people as possible as quickly as possible,” said Les Sinclair, communications manager for the Blue Ridge Food Bank.

Together, Meals on Wheels and the Blue Ridge Food Bank serve hundreds of people.

“It’s seniors. It’s children. It’s families of all kinds,” Sinclair said. “And individuals too.”

While the food bank will not be making deliveries on Friday, anyone in immediate need of assistance can visit the bank’s website or call for assistance in locating another food distribution location nearby.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for it,” Sinclair said. “And if you need it, get it.”
