Strong winds, thunderstorms in Denver, Eastern Plains

3 p.m: A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for most of Colorado’s eastern plains east of I-25, with winds up to 80 mph, hailstone-sized hail and frequent lightning expected across the state.

According to the National Weather Service, the severe weather warning covers Adams, Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Elbert, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Weld and Yuma counties.

14:46: A severe thunderstorm with wind speeds of 60 mph is moving through the Denver metropolitan area and could damage roofs, facades and trees, meteorologists said in a warning from the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Denver and parts of Adams, Arapahoe, Weld and Douglas counties until 3:15 p.m.

Storm damage would occur before rain and lightning strikes, so people should not wait until they hear thunder to seek shelter, meteorologists said.
