“Plants for the pollinators!” – Winner of the weekly garden photo competition

Many gardeners design and plant their areas to attract the plants they want. JoAnne Harmon writes, “My perennial garden is a welcoming place for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, and I love all the activity they bring to the garden!” The Oxford native says her lush, colorful garden is filled with perennials such as alliums, daisies, rudbeckias, coneflowers, monarda, sedum and butterfly bush, lined with hydrangeas of the “Limelight” variety. As this week’s winner, Harmon will receive a home or garden book and will compete for the grand prize – a $200 English Gardens gift certificate – through online voting by Homestyle readers Sept. 3-10. The winner will be announced Sept. 13. Submit your photos at detroitnews.com/gardenphotos24. And don’t forget to tell us what makes them special to you, what flowers you used or what inspires you. Submissions will be accepted until August 19th, 12:00 noon.
