Subway restaurants are reducing prices on 30 cm long sandwiches for a limited time

There is a new addition to the fast food price war: Subway is reducing the prices of its 30 cm long sandwiches for a few weeks.

Starting Monday, August 26, all 12-inch sandwiches will be $6.99. The promotion runs through Sunday, September 8. To take advantage of the offer, you must place your order through the Subway app or on subway.com using the promo code 699FL.

Regular prices for the footlongs at a downtown Portland eatery range from $7.89 for a Veggie Delite to $12.89 for The Monster, which includes steak and bacon.

Subway is betting that if customers download the app and sign up for the chain’s MVP Rewards program, the deals will keep them coming back for more footlongs, chips and drinks.

Inflation has certainly caused many consumers to stop eating out altogether, and Subway is far from the first fast-food chain to cut prices on certain items to bring them back to the counter. Chains like McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Taco Bell have brought back inexpensive meals. And other restaurants like Denny’s, Applebee’s and Chili’s are advertising cheap deals.

Still, the latest campaign is a far cry from the brand’s original $5 footlong campaign from 2008, which was a great success when it came to attracting customers to stores at the beginning of the recession. But eventually became untenable for the continuation of the franchises. Subway tried to revive the deal in 2017, but dropped it a year later.

Subway closed more than 400 restaurants in the U.S. last year, but still has nearly 37,000 locations worldwide, including 257 in Oregon and 36 in Portland.
