Antonio Lopez, Weslaco Fire Chief, reported that the pilot was able to secure the aircraft while exiting the aircraft and left the scene unharmed. “We found a small propeller that had been damaged during the approach to the airport. At that point, we determined that the pilot was unharmed and was able to leave the scene, which is good. He was able to follow his procedures to make sure the aircraft was secured while exiting the aircraft,” Lopez explained.
Investigation ongoing
After the crash, the Weslaco Police Department took over the investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was also informed. The goal of the investigation is to determine the exact cause of the propeller damage and to examine possible improvements to the airport’s safety protocols.
