Survey to reveal surcharge for furnished rentals…

According to a survey, tenants pay on average 20% more per month for a furnished apartment than for an unfurnished one.

And while the average rent for an inner-city apartment is rising, so is the price premium for a furnished apartment. This results in an average difference of £3,129 per year, or £261 per month, between a furnished and an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment.

Furniture retailer MADE claims to have identified the most expensive and cheapest cities to rent a furnished two-bedroom apartment. The survey only included a small sample of 500 people.

However, the study suggests that tenants are generally dissatisfied with the furniture used.

The most common answers were cheap (18%) and boring (17%), closely followed by stained (12%) and old (12%). Other uninspiring descriptions included run down, uncomfortable and non-functional.

A company spokesperson says: “If you’re renting a property that’s already furnished, there are still plenty of ways to enhance your space. Rather than viewing boring furniture as a limitation, think of it as a blank canvas where you can modernise or maximise these pieces through colourful accessories or clever space-saving solutions. You can also get creative with decorative elements such as throws, cushions, rugs and books.

“Also, maximize your space by incorporating eye-catching pieces like floor lamps or shelves. Existing furniture can be enhanced with visually appealing trays, candles or patterned tablecloths. Even something as simple as adding a wicker basket or colorful storage box to a boring TV stand can significantly improve its look.”
