Sushi restaurant in Grand Rapids closes its doors

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Maru Sushi on Bridge Street NW in Grand Rapids has closed.

The company announced via social media that it was closing and merging with another Maru location, 927 Cherry St. SE, effective Sunday, August 18.

“After careful consideration, we have determined that this is the best decision to better serve our teams and guests by allowing us to more accurately focus our efforts on one location in this region,” the company said on Facebook. “While this was not an easy decision, we are excited to be able to offer an even better work and dining experience as we continue to grow.”

The closed Maru location is at 415 Bridge St. NW.

The restaurant opened in 2016, originally under the name Ando Asian Kitchen, in a multi-use building at the corner of Bridge Street NW and Turner Avenue. It later changed its name to Maru, which also has locations in Detroit, East Lansing, Kalamazoo and Midland, according to its website.

“We want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” the company said on Facebook. “Thank you for every meal you have had with us, for every reunion, every birthday or anniversary you have celebrated with us. For every positive review, every takeaway order, every photo and every kind word we have received from you over the last seven years.”
