Suspect arrested in attempted murder of Lenoir County seed store

41-year-old Kevin Lee Morris, who was wanted for attempted murder following a robbery at Brown’s Plant and Seeds Store, has been captured.

Officials with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office tell us Morris was captured after a 40-minute standoff that began around 8:10 p.m. on Thursday evening, August 22. The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team surrounded a residence at 4074 Hwy 258 South and Morris was taken into custody by the unit at 9 p.m., according to LCSO officials.

“The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division has spent literally hundreds of hours on this case and I am sincerely grateful for their hard work,” said Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers. “We would also like to thank the Wake County Sheriff’s Office and Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe for their assistance.”

Morris was wanted for attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.

According to authorities, Morris attempted to rob the store and shot a man in the hand before fleeing the business.

The injured victim was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

After a 40-minute standoff, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41-year-old Kevin Lee Morris on charges of attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.

The shooting occurred on August 7 at Brown’s Plant and Seeds on Highway 258 North.

Today at 8:10 p.m., the LCSO Special Response Team (SRT) surrounded a residence at 4074 Hwy 258 South where Morris was located. Following the standoff between Morris and the SRT, he was taken into custody by the unit at 9 p.m.
