Swissport receives operating license for Frankfurt Airport

Swissport International AG has been granted a license to provide ground handling services at Frankfurt Airport in Germany from February 2025. This new license strengthens Swissport’s position as a leading provider of aviation services, according to an official press release from Swissport.

“The new license is valid for seven years, until January 2032. Swissport will now begin preparations planned for the launch in Frankfurt to ensure a smooth start. Frankfurt will be Swissport’s largest site in Germany and one of its most important sites in Europe. Swissport currently offers ground handling, air cargo handling and refueling services at 15 airports across Germany and almost 300 airports worldwide.”

“The acquisition of the license is an important milestone for Swissport and we look forward to serving airlines at Frankfurt Airport. Swissport is a leader in managing large, complex airport operations and Frankfurt brings additional scale to our business,” says Warwick Brady, President & CEO of Swissport International AG. “We will continue to provide our airline customers with a competitive advantage by consistently delivering operational excellence to improve performance and service quality and thus positively impact the passenger experience. And we want to enable a smooth transition and ensure job security and continued high-quality service for the current ground handler’s employees.”

The company also aims to make 55% of its fleet electric by 2032 and to be carbon neutral by 2050. Swissport plans to use state-of-the-art electric ground handling equipment in Frankfurt, in line with airport operator Fraport’s goal of eliminating all carbon dioxide emissions at fully consolidated airports worldwide by 2045, the press release continues.

Swissport has been operating its cargo handling unit at Frankfurt Airport since 1995.
